Blackboard

Technology is an ever-increasing part of our work environment and our daily lives. We feel every student who graduates from Ursinus should have the basic computer and Internet skills required in today’s job market. We are improving many of our traditional courses by adding technology elements to better prepare our students for the future. All traditional courses incorporates the use of Blackboard, a course management tool accessed via the Internet, and the use of standard office software into a traditional 15-week semester. Blackboard is also being used by two-credit Leadership Performance courses.

Blending online education with the traditional classroom will enhance the course without adding additional work. All courses require you to have access to a personal computer with Internet access, and word processing software. Depending on the course, additional office software may be required. The Microsoft Office suite of software is recommended. In addition to the traditional classroom model, the class may be supplemented with any or all of the following: asynchronous discussions boards, electronic submission of homework, links to websites, supplemental exercises, and readings. These additional features also provide for exciting opportunities for adding creative elements to presentations.

Don’t confuse traditional courses with our NetGain program. Both Traditional courses and NetGain courses are blended education, but NetGain courses use WebStudy as the course management tool, and are fast paced 7-week courses that rely heavily on the online learning component. Traditional courses allow those who prefer a slower pace to still experience many of the benefits of technology and online learning, while still taking courses in our traditional 15-week classroom format.
